What are the Types of Transmission Belts?

Depending on the application, there are several different types of transmission belts. These are commonly used in various industries, including power transmission and industrial automation. They are designed to transmit power between two rotating shafts. They are made of either rubber or synthetic polymers. They are also designed to be lightweight and flexible. These belts run smoothly and efficiently, absorbing shocks and providing a smooth power transmission.

A common type of power transmission device used in industry today is the synchronous belt. These belts are characterized by a toothed profile. They mate with the grooves of the pulleys to provide a stable and flexible power transmission. Synchronous belts are easy to install and provide a wide range of application options. These belts are ideal for applications that require a high ratio of torque and speed. They are also designed to withstand the high-temperature, chemical and pressure conditions found in industrial process equipment.

Another type of power transmission device is the V-belt. This is a wedge-shaped belt that works on the tension-creating principle. In order for the belt to transmit power, it needs to be pressed against the pulley with a certain contact force. The force must be high enough to prevent the belt from slipping over the driven pulley.

The optimum size of the belt depends on the force distribution required. Belts that are narrower can be used to transmit higher torque and speed. Narrow belts also allow for a more compact drive space. They also have a higher depth-to-width ratio.
